WEAK, BUT BETTER

I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. Psalms 89:1

A believer can always sing about Jesus, even if he has no voice,
Because this is melody in the heart and it is always the right choice.
So we give thanks for His great love, from the bottom of our heart,
And praise Him because we heard, and got off to a right start.
This song never ceases, we just keep it up, until we are home.
Thank God for this lovely place Heaven; we will never have to roam. (RP)

I cannot brag about much strength today, but I am better than I was two days ago. I am thankful for medicine Harold suggested. It has definitely made me better with the Lord's help, of course. What a cold it was!  We enjoyed our son's visit with us and he helped us a lot. We trust each of you has a great day. Here we are promised warm weather. That's ok with us. We are prepared. Thanks for praying.

SERVICE WITH A SMILE

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1

God expects us to present our bodies to Him no matter where we are,
Don't let the foolish deceive you, this is really not something bizarre.
A living sacrifice is special indeed, as we consciously give Him our all,
So with Him in control how wonderful it is to just go where he gently will call.
The reasonable thing in the Christian life, is letting God take over my life,
And serving Him this way is the way to go, on a road that has much less strife. (RP)

It was hard for us to miss church yesterday but I was just too sick to attend. Our son arrived yesterday afternoon and this morning I was served coffee and bagel.  That was nice of him to get it for me. When he visits us, we always go for coffee and bagels.  I am feeling better today but am very weak. Margie just gave me a vitamin B-12 shot.  That should help. The only flu shot I have had in my 85 years didn't prevent this illness, that's for sure.  Thanks for praying.

UNDER THE WEATHER

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. Jer 33:3

Lord, You tell me to call and You will hear,Even I can understand this.
May I obey Your command today?
And never a blessing miss. (RP)

It doesn't happen often. Friday at the Bible class my throat was a little sore, and my voice was deeper and from there things went downhill. I got worse and worse. I canceled all my responsibilities at church this morning. I certainly hate to miss out, but no one is indispensible. I was to meet the missionaries, and later introduce the speaker after praying especially for our service people on this Memorial Day weekend. Oh well, someone else will do it now. I am definitely not in any shape to go to church, that's for sure. Thanks for praying.

IMPORTANT TRIP

Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6

God is not finished with you dear Christian; there is much He wants to do,
Salvation is a great part of your life, but there is more He wants to do for you.
Every day we live His Word teaches, guides and trains our seeking heart,
The more we do this the better it gets, and from this habit we will not depart.
The years come and go, and we grow in Him, and God's work never stops,
God promises that He'll keep working on us and we know His work is tops. (RP)

After Bible class yesterday we made a quick trip to Lynden, Washington, about 15 miles from us, to leave some paperwork with Margie's doctor. When Dr. Burden sends it back to us, we can then get license plates especially designed for handicap parking. Now we use the signs that hang from the rear view mirror above the dashboard of the car. The plates are much better.  Our Bible class went well, and we realize we have only two more before the recess for the summer. Thanks for praying.

COOLER

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

God helps us in so many ways; He makes it possible for us to work for Him.
You want to do things but do not know how; all this when the chances are slim.
But He graces you with abilities so you can do things He wants you to do,
And then you serve the Lord with gladness and He gives blessing not a few. (RP)

We are having delightful days, and today is even cooler. We have no complaints, however, when the weather is so nice. This morning, as usual on Friday, we go down to the Senior Activity Center for the Bible class. We always look forward to this. We must make a quick trip to Lynden after class, to apply for another year of handicap parking permission for our car because of Margie's condition. This year we are opting for license plates with this privilege. Thanks for praying.

SAME THING

Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are those who keep my ways.
Prov 8:32

Wisdom speaks clearly right here to us, to keep her ways each day,
And those who do will be blessed indeed for they have learned to obey.
So listen to wisdom dear friend, as you read God's holy Word.
It's the only reliable counsel you'll get and the best thing you have heard. (RP)

Almost every Thursday it is the same thing. I take Margie to the hairdresser in the morning and in the afternoon we attend prayer meeting. Yesterday we received in the mail some aquarium fish. The mail carrier ask is they were live fish. I said yes. Margie's brother ordered them and they were delivered here. He came in the morning to pick them up. We remember when we lived in the Amazon River in Brazil, they shipped many beautiful fish to the States. Now there is state of the art methods of doing it. Spud showed us yesterday the fish packaged in "breathable" plastic sacks. The fish were in the water and very much alive. It is amazing. They came from Wisconsin. Never a dull moment.  Thanks for praying.

BUSY DAY

1 John 1:8-9
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Self deception is so common, that's why John wrote these few lines.
When one thinks he is not sinning and in other things opines.
God tell us oh so plainly that the truth is not in us.
When we say we have no sin, we better stop our fuss,
Just confess your sin to Jesus and He'll faithfully forgive,
Giving joy and peace and calmness and a great desire to live. (RP)

Some days are busier than others. Today it is for us. We will try to get all our obligations taken care of before the day ends. We will have Connection Fellowship at our church tonight.  It is a time of prayer and information as our church seeks another pastor. Thanks for praying.

SHOPPING

Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

We may wonder how we can obey this verse; we need help to learn how,
Just go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to give you wisdom right now.
Each one of us can edify others, saying things that encourage and bless,
Keep at it each day and build that special one up, and never digress.
I think you are doing this right; it seems like you have tried and won,
Keep it up and improve your work; and stay faithful until your work is done.(RP)

Yesterday morning we needed to get some medicine for Margie and took advantage of the trip to do some shopping. We went to several places and because of the time, we decided to have lunch in town. We were disappointed with the chili at Wendy's.  We have enjoyed it for years, but yesterday there was something different about it. At every Wendy's across the country we noticed that the chili was always the same.  I guess that has changed.  Today we are doing things we should have done yesterday. I am working ahead on getting the church prayer sheet completed. Thanks for praying.

WONDERFUL DAY

Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples,He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. But He needed to go through Samaria.
John 4:1-4

Jesus walked in obedience to the Father, so to Samaria he NEEDED to go,
What a display of surrender was shown as He faithfully walked here below.
Are we living close to the Lord, desiring always to do His will?
I pray we all are. so the joy will be ours as we obediently His commands fulfill.(RP)

It was a woderful day yesterday at our church and the commissioning service for the pastor as he enters his new ministry as Executive Director of Baptist Network Northwest.  There were special speakers, good music and particularly the duet of our son and Glenn Golay. It was beautiful. Rawlie stayed with us in the afternoon, then left for his home later. Thanks for praying.

COMMISSIONING SERVICE

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.Gal 6:7

Remember self deception plays some awful tricks on us.
Because we think we are alone but really God sees all.
And what we do is seen by Him and what we say He hears.
Sowing and reaping go hand in hand; the verdict will soon fall. (R.P.)

Today is pastor Dave Lunsford's last Sunday at Ferndale. His commissioning service will be today, where he will transition into the position of executive director of the Baptist Network Northwest. A program is planned for this morning and a lunch following the service. Our son will be singing a duet with another in the service. We look forward to it. Thanks for praying.

BAKING

Heb 13:15
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God,that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

You cannot do it once and think you are done; you must do it more,
That about which we are talking today, nobody can really ignore,
We offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually; we never quit.
Every Christian to this subject should definitely and readily admit.
With our lips we can do this all the time, giving praises every day,
Praising Him with your lips, your life should also be on display. (RP)

As usual, Margie will do some baking today. She usually makes bar cookies. And they are always good.  Yesterday Harold, Ernie and I communicated with an app on our smartphones which makes texting and audio possible. We experimented with both. Siang set us up for the three way chat. She did not know that we could use the audio until I sent her an audio message. So we "talked" back and forth in very short sentences but it was good. Rawlie arrives today to practice for his duet tomorrow at the commissioning service for our pastor. His last Sunday is tomorrow. Thanks for praying.

COOLER

Leviticus 19:31
Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

The occult is rampant in our world today; many are captive to its lure,
Thank God that only Jesus gives help; in Him is the absolute cure.
Delving into realms out of bounds for us, is foolish beyond degree,
When lost sinners come to Jesus, He is is only one to set them free.
Believers in Jesus and all others too, should never regard the occult,
Receive Jesus as your Savior, and then only His word and Him consult. (RP)

We are sure there are many areas of our land that would love to have our weather. It was 48 degrees F. this morning. It rained a little yesterday and through the night. We had to use the furnace to get warm today.  Later this morning, we head down the hill for the Bible study at the Senior Center. We always look forward to it.  Thanks for praying.

CONNECTION

As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
Psalms 18:30

A threefold blessing is given us here and it is refreshing like the rain,
As we read this verse it blesses us because the message is so plain.
Are you not glad as you read this verse that we have a perfect God?
And He does not hide anything behind a deceptive and mean facade.
His Word for us is proven, because we have tested it so many ways,
Each time we do, it gets better, and brings joy and peace to our days.
Thank you Lord for being our shield so that we can depend upon You,
Because it is this way, we rejoice, because you are proven and true (RP)

Last night we attended the Connection Fellowship at our church. It is time for prayer, spiritual reflections, Bible truths, and fellowship.  Last night the young people joined us after having a fun time and refreshments in the patio area outside of the church. This is now held on the night AWANA usually meets. AWANA begins again in the fall, so it works out well. This afternoon we go to church for the afternoon prayer meeting. We look forward to it. Thanks for remembering us in prayer.

IT'S GONE

Psalm 40:8
I delight to do Your will, O my God,And Your law is within my heart.

Of all the pleasures here on earth, there's one that passes all,
To some it may seem meaningless and something very small.
But those who do God's will are blest, cause it's the thing to.
His law in our heart is such a delight that we always want to pursue. (RP)

Yesterday Nathan hauled away the old rug that came out of the garage. It was ruined by water. And when the water soaked it, the thing fell to pieces. We are glad it is gone and so thankful to Nathan, our grandson, for removing it.  Margie's perm went well yesterday and thanks to a courtesy car, I was able to get some necessary shopping done while our car's maintenance was being cared for. Today it is cooler, the wind is blowing and things look pretty nice. The flowers in our front spot look beautiful and the rose bush has a bud on it.  Thanks for praying.

PERMANENT

Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal:The Lord knows those who are His,"and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
2Ti 2:19

God's promise is sure and as strong as His name and is sealed with His loving concern,
And we read in the Word all the promises great and realize we have much to learn.
I'm so grateful He knows me; I belong to Him, and a warning He gives me today,
When we carry His name he instructs us with love, to depart from evil all the way. (RP)

Margie has a permanent this morning, so I will take her there, and pick her up later. Our car also goes into the garage today for its regular maintenance. We are hoping I can fit her roller walker into the courtesy car the shop will loan us. I also have a meeting this evening with the board, to discuss further matters concerning the pastor's farewell service next Sunday. Thanks for praying.

LAST SUNDAY

If we walk in the light as He is in the light,we have fellowship with one another.
1 John 1:7

A condition is placed on believers in Christ, we see it plainly here,
Only those who walk in His light will have fellowship; that is clear.
Not only do we have fellowship with Him, but other believers too,
And that makes this walk a special one, for all to seek and do. (RP)

Dave Lunsford preached his last message as pastor of First Baptist Church - Ferndale, Washington, yesterday. Next week his farewell service will be conducted with special guest speakers, and a program for his departure. He has been pastor here for almost 15 years. Now our church looks for another. We ask you to pray as the elder board and search committee start the process of seeking a new leader for us. Thanks so much for praying.

GREAT VISIT

Matthew 11:29
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Jesus calls us to yoke with him; this is the way we learn,
Certainly for this gracious command, we all should yearn.
Jesus is gentle and lowly in heart; what an example for us,
Those who are lacking this grace, should learn to adjust.
We all need a place of rest; Jesus gives that to our souls,
Stop living for self and give in to Him; let these be your goals. (RP)

We were blessed Friday by the arrival of Rawlie to spend a couple of nights here with us. In fact our grandson Nathan joined us for lunch yesterday and we had a wonderful time of fellowship. I prepared stuffed green peppers and that with some fresh corn and Margie's just freshly baked cookies, we had it made. Rawlie returns home this morning. I will make him a latte before we all leave for church. He goes to Stanwood and we to ours here in Ferndale.  We have had a weather change, so it is cooler. We don't complain. Thanks for praying.

HORNET

For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
1 Pet 2:15

You may wonder sometimes what God wants you to do,
So look at this verse and learn a thing or two.
God expects us to work for Him each day,
And silence foolish men by the things we do and say.(RP)

I never expected this to happen.  After Bible class yesterday, we came right home. In our garage Margie got out of the car, and I went to the rear of the car and opened the door to remove her roller.  Instantly I felt a burn on my finger and thought it was just a reminder that maybe I had arthritis in that finger. But the instant I felt the burn I saw an ugly hornet fly out of its hiding place - the handle of the door.  I have to reach into it, press the buttons and I can raise the door. I've done it a "jillion" times. But I can assure you I will figure out someway to find out if there is something in there next time I put her roller there. Boy it hurt. I went Online to ask how to treat these kinds of stings. They said, wash it well and put ice on it.  I already had the ice on it. Today it feels fine.  Thanks for praying.

ANOTHER DAY

Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another. Romans 12:10

Love should be our trademark; let us strive to make it so,
When you honestly love the brethren, it's the right way to go.
Give preference to others; don't think you have to be king,
When brotherly love takes control it is a wonderful thing.
So live the Christian life the way it ought to always be.
Then all the world will know our place, and they will see. (RP)

Another day of warm weather they promised on the forecast today. Another day to serve the Lord is what we know is true. Another day to thank the Lord for His blessings to us in innumerable ways. Another day to teach the Bible class this morning. Yes, we are grateful for another day, and there are many more reasons we could mention.  We trust this DAY will be a blessing to you. Thanks for praying.

HAIR & PRAYER

1 Corinthians 16:14
Let all that you do be done with love.

It's so easy, it seems, to choose what we'll do, no matter the results for us,
But God has a word, for us in this verse; and this we now will discuss.
God intends that His children treat others with love, and this you should do every day,
Just give it a try and you'll be surprised when you see what it means to obey. (RP)

People smile when they see the heading for today's blog. I coined this a long time ago. Hair and prayer. We do one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.  Last night we also had prayer at church. It is called "Connection Evening Fellowship".  Our weather has been fabulous, but it is not hot like some places record.  It is just right. Thanks for your prayers.

DOCTOR

Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

It cannot get better than this; God has given us much,
And the more we read, we see His marvelous touch. He only has the path of life; are you glad you found it?
If you really understand God's love, this you will admit
.When we are with Him some day it will all make sense,
And no longer about these eternal things will we be tense.
Thank God with Him heavenly pleasures never cease,
In fact in His presence they only get better and increase. (RP)

Margie sees her doctor today about a shot in her shoulder. She had one several months ago and needs another now. She does not want to go through another surgery like she did before. The recovery process was too agonizing for her. She doesn't want to repeat it. We are washing clothes now which is our every Wednesday project. Thanks for praying.

HARD TO BELIEVE

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8

God calls His children to be witnesses, and empowers them to serve,
He sends them to tell others of Jesus; this command we must observe.
The Holy Spirit gives power to those who will submit; it all starts here,
And we are to go into all the world and give out His message so clear. (RP)

My trip to the dentist yesterday was interesting. I expected it to be a long drawn-out affair. He had to fill a tooth which gives support to the partial plate. Modern dentistry is amazing. From the initial pain killing shot to the end of the procedure, there was no discomfort.  The filling was already hardened when he completed the work, and there were no restrictions on eating. The normal awkward feeling of the pain killing medication was absent. I have never had anything like it. I was amazed, and pleased. Our weather is super and today is another sun-filled wonder. Thanks for praying.

WHAT A GREAT DAY!

Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

How many of us are guilty of this: we worry about tomorrow,
We have sufficient to bother us, but worry we never have to borrow.
Our tomorrow will actually care for itself; it does not need me,
So let it go my friend and you will soon see that you will be free.
We need to learn to rest in the Lord and let Him work things out,
And we will see what a good job He does, then we can give a shout. (RP)

Yesterday was special. Our family attended church with us in Ferndale. Then they honored Margie at a restaurant with a delicious meal. Margie made some dessert for us, so we came home and the family visited for quite awhile before leaving for their home in Stanwood, WA.  It was a lovely day and we are thankful for our family. And Margie was honored so wonderfully.  Thanks for praying.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Proverbs 31:28
Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:

We're blessed today on Mother's Day to honor them one and all.
Asking God to help and bless them as upon His name we call.
Mothers deserve to be treated this way on this very special day.
For all they do in countless ways their love to family convey.
Children today are arising to bless their mother dear,
And husbands praising them highly for they are so sincere.
Will you join the millions in singing your praises to your dear one,
And prove to them sincerely they really can't be outdone. (RP)

A very special day to remember Mothers.  Today our family will attend church WITH us at First Baptist - Ferndale, WA.  We are honored for them to be here. Then they have invited us for lunch at a well-known Greek restaurant in Bellingham, WA.  We look forward to this special time to honor mothers. We trust your day is a blessing to you. Thanks for praying.

LAST MINUTE DETAIL

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride has many forms, and you know what I'm talking about,
You don't have to explain this sin, for all of us there's no doubt.
God tells us destruction comes to those who willingly persist in this.
And the ones who do, can rightfully say they have really been remiss.
If pride has taken charge of you, please run to the Lord and call,
Do this right now before it's too late, and especially before you fall. (RP)

The old rug we had in the garage is finally out of the garage drying, after it got soaked two weeks ago. Last night I realized it may rain, so went out to the storage shed, got a tarp and covered the rug.  I feared it would rain during the night and get soaked. Then it would cost a lot to dump it because it goes by weight. I will uncover it today and let it get more sunshine. We had a good Bible class yesterday with excellent participation by the members. Trust your day goes well. Thanks for praying.

FLOWERS

Matthew 5:44
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.

God clearly teaches His children, how to live here in our place,
We are to love our enemies and always show them God's grace.
Be kind to those who curse you, showing goodness to those who hate,
Keep on praying for them, and you'll receive His favor which is great.(RP)

Yesterday I went to Ace Hardware and purchased some plants for our flower garden. I am not good at this sort of thing, but enjoy caring for them. The kind lady at Ace said she will put the flowers in the boxes I take there on Saturday, and she will arrange them in the planters, and not charge for the potting soil. That sounded real good to me, so I will do that tomorrow. I wanted to do this before Mother's Day. This morning we have Bible study which is our very enjoyable time of the week. Thanks for praying.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men..1 Pet 2:15

You may wonder sometimes what God wants you to do,
So look at this verse and learn a thing or two.
God expects us to work for Him each day,
And silence foolish men by the things we do and say.

Today is National Day of Prayer. I am so glad our country still has one.  Last night we went to church for prayer. This afternoon a small group will meet also for prayer. Prayer is what our country needs and needs it desperately.  We hope and pray you have learned the value of it in your life.  Thanks for praying.

COOLER

Luke 6:47-48
Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: "He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock ".

Foundations are always important as one speaks of buildings or lives,
If not done according to rules neither one of these things survives.
Christ is the foundation for spiritual life, and without Him you will fail,
Only with Jesus as Savior will your hope for eternity prevail.
When the storms of life come upon us, the foundation is what gets us through,
Invite Jesus into your life right now for salvation that He'll give you.(RP)

Today it is cooler. We were glad yesterday however for the coolers because it was warmer weather. It is raining a little bit and we did not get the old rotten rug disposed of when it was dry, so now we will have to wait til it dries out again, then take it to the dump. We trust you all have a good day. Thanks for praying.

86 degrees F.

Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

We love to categorize people and put them in their place,
But God does things differently because it's not about race.
He looks at you not your color; He looks right down at the heart.
And cares not about many other things, just about how you start.
Begin with Jesus and invite Him in, things will improve right now,
This is what He wants to do with you, if you will just allow.
In Christ we are all one, if He is the Savior of your soul,
Come to Him and rest there, and let Him have control. (RP)

We talked about weather yesterday, and we will do it again today. It was 86 yesterday. We were thankful for the evaporative coolers which kept the temperature pleasant inside the house. Today is Missionary meeting at our church in the afternoon. I have a meeting at the church tonight. Margie had a filling yesterday at the dentist. So we manage to keep on the move around here. We trust your day goes well. Thanks for praying.

WARMER

Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory.
1 Peter 1:8

We do not see Jesus right now; but we see Him in God's Book,
He is there for all to see if they will just take time to read and look.
He is in heaven watching over us, we believe with all our heart,
Please pay attention to Him, because if you do, you are smart.
Just keep looking while rejoicing; it's the best thing we can do,
For our joy is found in Him, and is inexpressible and glorious too. (RP)

The weatherman tells us the temperature is going to be higher today. We are prepared with the evaporative coolers ready to give us cool air. Yesterday we had a good one at church. We had a guest speaker. The rest of the day was spent quietly at home. Thanks for praying.

BEAUTIFUL DAY

Proverbs 15:4
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life,But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

Lord help us learn to use our tongue to glorify Your name,
For if we do this faithfully, we will never be the same. May our words build well on this tree of life; help us please,
For our heavenly Father listens well and I know he sees.
Help us put away the wickedness that creeps in day by day,
Make us Christians strong and true who know what it is to pray. (RP)

We awakened to a beautiful day. The sun is strong and they predict 80 degree weather tomorrow. I am glad we have the evaporative coolers ready to go. A few weeks ago when my brother was here, it was very warm and we had them going.  This morning we will be in Sunday School class where we study the book of Romans. We look forward to that. In the morning service we will have a guest speaker. We will observe communion and I was asked to conduct it. We trust your day goes well. Thanks for your prayers.
